Scholarships 2009
The aim of Amenise-Harvard programmes is to support Italian scientists with peculiar capabilities, to contribute in the creation of novel research areas in biological sciences in Italy and favour a deeper relationship between Italian scientists and Boston's Harvard Medical School (HMS).
Armenise-Harvard Career Development Awards
A grant for career improvement is offered with the aim of supporting scientists possessing peculiar capabilities, enabling them to make a significative aid to their own research areas in Italy. The programme will begin on 1st July 2009 and will grant from 3 to 5 years of support to scientists who have recently become independent at hosting institutes authorized in Italy.Candidates must:
- Be young emerging scientists with proven productive capabilities and with a capacity to operate as independent researchers. Any work experience with or for HMS may be at your advantage but it is not required
- Have at least 3 years experience in postdoctoral basic biological science research and no more than 10 years from doctorate
- Be a non-italian resident researcher wishing to be a part of the Italian researchers' community
- Have an agreement for the development of a new research area at a hosting institute in Italy.
- Not have a former contract with a hosting institute in Italy
The "Career Development Award" consists in $ 200.000 a year and it comprises a reward proportioned to the position occupied within the hosting institute, salary for other memebers involved in the research program and annual funds for equipment/infrastructure
A designated candidate for the Armenise-Harvard Career Development Grant cannot, except in extraordinary circumstances, benefit from the above mentioned funds and from other funds, given to support the scientist in another hosting institute in Italy, at the same time.
The deadline to present one's candidature is 15th July 2008.
The Armenise-Harvard "PhD" Programme
The "PhD" program for young italian graduates in scientific disciplines aiming to attend a research doctorate at HMS's Medical Sciences Department (DMS) consists in funds given to candidates selected for admission to DMS for a duration of 2 years. At the end of this period, researchers will continue to be subsidized by the hosting laboratory at HMS. On completion of the doctoral period, the Foundation will provide the researchers with further fundings for a year, on condition that thay return to Italy.
The deadline to present one's candidature is by the first half of December 2008.
