The European Science Foundation has issued an announcements for founding of seminars and a sholarship to identify research topics for the upcoming EUROCORES programmes.
ESF - Exploratory workshops and Themes
The European Science Foundation invites submission of proposals for the organization of Exploratory Workshops to be held in 2008.
The workshops' aim is to form and/or strengthen collabporations on a european level through the exploration of emerging, innovative and interdisciplinary research issues of interest. Every year, ESF finances a total of around 50 Exploratory Workshops.
Candidate eligibility: Proposals must be presented by single scientists and researchers related to Universities and/or Research Institutes of European countries members of ESF.
Participants: Workshops must be aimed at scientists and researchers, preferably from countries memebers of ESF, for a total of 30 participants.
Participation of young researchers is strongly favoured
Proposals: proposals must be of excellent scientific quality and must demonstrate the importance of callaboration in terms of a european value added. Workshops must be held in a ESF member country during the course of the year 2008 (1st January - 31st December).
Disciplinary areas: All areas corresponding to the following ESF disciplinary committees:
- Physical and Engineering Sciences (chemistry, mathematics, informatics and the computer sciences, physics, fundamental engineering sciences, materials sciences)
- Biomedical Sciences
- Life, Hearth and Environmental Sciences
- Humanities
- Social Sciences
- Science driven issues of Research
Infrastructures in any of the above fields
Budget: Limit of the contribution is 15.000,00 Euros per proposal, covering expenses related to workshop activities, travel and accommodation costs of the participants.
ESF funds are destined to events organized by or attended by scholars from ESF member countries.
Researchers from NON ESF member countries may partecipate in limited number (as co-proposing candidates or participants), given that they provide for their own funding.

Documentation and application forms: No application forms are requested, submissions are carried out through an online form.
ESF - Eurocores themes
The European Science Foundation (ESF) invites candidate to present research topics for the upcoming EUROCORES (European Science Foundation Collaborative Research) programmes. Aim of the EUROCORES programme is to develop collaboration and scientific synergy between researchers from different european countries through collaborative research project funding. At present, EUROCORES Programme finances 10 to 20 projects in the following areas: Humanities, Cognitive Sciences, Physical Sciences, Engineering Sciences, Materials Science, Medical, Social-, Bio-,Geo- ed Environmental Sciences.
Aim of the call for presentation is to collect proposals, among which around 5 topics will be selected. These topics will then be the subject of a consecutive announcement for specific research project funding.
The EUROCORES programme, developed on the basis of the selected proposals, will involve from 70 to 200 scientists and will be conducted with a total funding amount of at least 10 million Euros for a period of 3-4 years.
Disciplinary areas: Proposals may be presented for any disciplinary area.
Addressees: research topic proposals must be presented by groups of scientists from at least 4 different ESF member countries and/or representatives of Organizations who are national co-financers of ESF member countries.
In Italy, CNR is the financing organization who, following up the structure reform decree, cannot support exeternal organizations. Therefore, with respect to the present announcement, teachers and univerisity researchers may partecipate as associate or fully qualified partners - providing pesonally for their own expenses or being supported in case the Eurocores project should obtain special funding from another institute - or as a subcontractor of a CNR insitute, not appearing threfore among the offical partners of the project.
