A brief history
1998
The planning of oncology services (enshrined in Regional Decree n. 18 of 2/3/1998) introduced the concept of "a network" or oncology services. Oncology Departments were established in each Local Health Authority. Oncology Department Referral Centres (CORD) were defined as the access points to the cancer diagnosis and treatment system.
2002
The oncology network Regional Coordination was established in order to strengthen the connections amongst services, to improve the cancer healthcare model in Tuscany, and to establish an oncology institute in Tuscany. (Regional Decree n. 532 of 5/27/2002).
2003
The plan for the creation of the Tumour Institute of Tuscany was adopted
( Regional Decree n.140 of 7/29/2003).
2004
The composition of the Director's Office and Technical and Scientific Committee of the Tumour Institute of Tuscany was defined ( Regional Decree n. 208 of 3/8/2004) and its Operating Director was appointed.
2005
The Tumour Institute of Tuscany was listed among the Clinical Governance Regional Centres (Regional Law n. 40 of 2/25/2005, art. 43)
